BIOPHILIC INTERIOR DESIGN
Dr. Beth McGee
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Interior Design Consultation and Researcher, PhD, NCIDQ, LEED AP
My experience in Interior Architecture has grown my passion for design to include aiding future designers to see how design can positively impact the world through sustainable, human centered design.
Community-minded and beneficial design that is mindful of how important creating well-designed spaces for us all to live in has become key to my research and design.
My master and doctoral degrees allowed experience to focus on the importance of nature in our interiors by beginning to quantify the biophilic design attributes present in healthcare spaces. The goal of beginning to operationalize biophilia lead to creating a biophilic design matrix with twenty four case studies supported by a mixed methods research design. It has also been further developed with user feedback to be easier to use and now has 54 design features that allows for a designer to choose how best to include a variety of these nature-based features. ABOUT BIOPHILIC DESIGN
What is it that commonly drives our design decisions for each and every one of us in this world? For me I see this as Biophilic Interior Design or the need to integrate natural features into our interior for optimal wellbeing. Since I got started as a design researcher back in 2010, I have found that I enjoy sharing this topic with the world. With each passing day, Biophilic Interior Design gains more followers, and with that, even more understanding.
